Maoists used nearly 30 kg of explosives in the deadly attack on the convoy of Congress leaders in Darbha valley in Chhattisgarh on May 25. The initial forensic report shows that explosives contained mainly ammonium nitrate, and were triggered by a command wire that created a five-metre-deep crater.

The impact of the explosion was so powerful that a vehicle was tossed away several metres and bodies were found hanging from the trees.

It has emerged that the nearly four dozen Maoists had been camping in the area five days before the attack. Initial probe also carries the signature of the Maoists unit form Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
