Molested AAP woman commits suicide

Staff Reporter

A day after the alleged suicide of AAP worker Soni Mishra, 28, in Narela area of outer Delhi, the Delhi Police said the investigation has been transferred to the Crime Branch and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ravindra Yadav, who will look after the case.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has ordered a magisterial probe into the alleged suicide of the AAP woman activist. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has asked North Delhi’s District Magistrate (DM) to investigate into the matter.

Reacting on the issue, leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said the “entire AAP dispensation” was responsible for the death of the woman, who had been “sexually harassed by a few members of AAP” for the past few months. Also, Gupta claimed that the family was not supported by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) when it had gone there seeking help in the case.

Before consuming the poison, the woman had shared this message on an AAP WhatsApp group, “I am leaving my body as I did not get the appropriate justice.” It was one of her colleagues who admitted her to the hospital after reading the message.

AAP’s Delhi convener Dilip Pandey claimed that accused Ramesh, who was arrested and later released on bail, was not a member of the AAP as being claimed by the BJP and that the party had extended all possible help to the woman when she had approached it.

AAP spokesperson Ashutosh tore into Gupta for allegedly “hijacking” the family of the victim and coming in the way of postmortem of the body. He alleged that Gupta was forcing the family members of the woman to name the AAP in the case.

The victim’s husband Ashok Mishra also joined the Press conference organised by the BJP at its Delhi unit headquarters where he said that his wife and his family were being threatened and harassed by a few men “owing allegiance to AAP” for several months, driving her into depression.

DCP (outer district) Vikramjeet Singh said an FIR under Section 306 has been registered against unknown persons.
