The BJP on Thursday formalised its electoral alliance in Tamil Nadu with the Vaiko-led MDMK for the upcoming lok Sabha elections. The decision was arrived at after a team of BJP leaders led by State party chief Pon Radhakrishnan and the octogenarian former president K lakshmanan held talks with Vaiko at the MDMK headquarters.

After preliminary discussion which lasted for 30 minutes, both parties made the official announcement that they would unitedly contest the lS polls.

With the formalisation of the BJP-MDMK alliance, Tamil Nadu is all set to see a triangular contest in the lok Sabha election. The BJP is also in discussion with the PMK led by Dr Ramdoss and the DMDK led by actor Vijayakanth.

The BJP and the MDMK are not strangers. The MDMK was a constituent of the NDA from 1998 to 2004. “We are seeing a Modi wave all over the country. The Congress cheated Tamil Nadu and Tamils…We do feel that the party (BJP) would take steps to resolve ethnic issues,” MDMK chief Vaiko told reporters after the meeting.

“We are holding discussions with leaders of the PMK and the DMDK. The coming days will see the emergence of a BJP-led front,” Radhakrishnan said.
