Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attacked the Opposition for disrupting Parliament over the demonetisation of Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes and said that he was not being allowed to speak in Parliament. “The Government has always said that it is ready for a debate in Parliament. But, I am not being allowed to speak in the lok Sabha so I am speaking in the jan sabha,” Modi said.
The PM said that happenings in Parliament had even anguished President Pranab Mukherjee.
“From the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, I want to share something with my friends in the Opposition,” Modi said.
The decision of demonetisation of Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes would not only help the nation fight terrorism and Naxalite activities, but it would also strengthen the hands of the poor in the long run, said Modi. Addressing a large gathering of milk producers and farmers at North Gujarat town Deesa situated in bordering Banaskantha district after launching a new cheese production facility at Banas Dairy, the Prime Minister claimed that the demonetisation move weakened the hands of terrorists and those in fake currency notes. “People of Banaskantha district know it very well what is happening across the border. Fake currency was used to promote terrorism in India,” said Modi, adding that those who have black money are the unhappy lot post-demonetisation but now they are trying to provoke honest citizens against the move.
During polls all parties try their best to increase voters’ turnout. Just like that, all political outfits can start a movement to teach people about banking and financial transactions using digital platform. This is the opportunity for everyone to change the country for better,” said PM Modi.
