In a shocking incident, an estranged husband chased his wife and father-in-law and shot them in cold blood from his double barrel gun at busy Karkardooma metro station in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. Both the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where the woman was declared brought dead. Her father, who is critical, has been shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital.
Police said that the deceased woman, Deepti, 32, was shot in the chest, while her father Bishan Das, 58, sustained two bullets one on the shoulder and another on back. The incident sent shock waves among the commuters as the shooting incident took place at the very entrance of the metro station.
Deepti and her father Bishan were heading towards the escalator when they were attacked by her estranged husband, Pawan, 36, outside Karkardooma metro station around 12.15 pm. Before the security personnel could swing into action, Pawan fled from the scene. Pawan is facing a divorce suit filed by Deepti. She, along with her father, was returning from the hearing in the Karkardooma court and was about to enter the metro station when Pawan fired five rounds at them.
“We were doing our routine work when we heard the firing shots. We saw a man firing at a women and a man from a double barrel gun,” said an eyewitness.
A police official said that Pawan used his father’s licenced double barrel gun. It appeared that he came prepared to liquidate the father and daughter duo. He arrived at the metro station and parked his Red Alto car in a “No parking area” and left the keys in the car too and fled from the spot. Investigators later recovered 10 unused cartridges from the spot. Bishan and Deepti resided in Chirag Delhi while Pawan is a resident of New Usmanpur.
A case of murder has been registered at Yamuna bank police station. Police plan to initiate penal action against the father of the accused too as the double barrel gun used in the murder was on his name. It amounts to gross dereliction on part of the licensee as it was his duty to keep his gun in safe custody, investigators said.
