PNS

A 22-year-old bride, who suffered serious burn injuries in an acid attack in ludhiana, breathed her last at a Mumbai hospital on Friday.

The victim was shifted from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in ludhiana to National Burns Centre, Mumbai for treatment on December 12. Her body will be airlifted to her native town Barnala.

On December 7, the victim had gone to a beauty parlour in Sarabha Nagar for her bridal make-up. A man barged in and threw acid on her. She suffered burn injuries on her face, chest and abdomen. She was immediately taken to DMC Hospital. Three other women present there were also injured.

The attacker left a note in Punjabi that he was in love with the victim and could not let her marry someone else. This was to mislead the police.

The surveillance camera of the beauty parlour captured the attacker and his getaway car in which four people were sitting giving initial clue to the police.

ludhiana police soon arrested Amitpal Kaur (30), the divorced wife of the elder brother of the groom, who was the mastermind of the attack along with her paramour and five others. Kaur told the police that she was envious of seeing the family happy since her divorce, and sought help from her paramour to scar the bride with acid on the day of her wedding. She apparently told the police that the victim was attacked so that no one dared to get their daughter married to the groom’s family.

A payment was also made to carry out the attack. After the death of the victim, police added sections pertaining to murder against the accused already in custody.
