leT planning suicide attacks in Delhi: Cops

Staff Reporter

Terrorist outfit lashkar-e-Tayyeba (leT) is planning to carry out ‘suicide attacks’ in the national Capital targeting “high-profile personalities”, said a police source on Saturday. The conspiracy was unearthed when Delhi Police Special Cell received an Intelligence input about two suspected leT operatives having allegedly infiltrated into Jammu & Kashmir through Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, the source added.

Following this, an FIR was registered at the Special Cell office in lodhi Colony under Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on December 1 against the two leT operatives identified as Dujana and Ukasha.

“Both the terrorists have reportedly been based in Kashmir Valley for quite a long time and are allegedly conspiring to target high-profile personalities in Delhi by carrying out suicide attacks or grenade attacks either themselves or through their cadre,” said the police source.

The cadre are believed to be using code names like Noman, Zaid and Khursheed. They are also suspected to be targeting particularly crowded areas in the city, said the source.

Following the registration of the FIR, senior officials directed the Special Cell to deploy sources to collect information about leT sympathisers, mount technical surveillance and take all possible measures to track down the threat at the earliest, the source added. In July, the Special Cell had registered an FIR against unknown persons suspected to be associated with the ISIS and allegedly conspiring terror attacks in the national capital and other cities.

Meanwhile, police apprehended a schoolteacher from Rajouri district of Jammu & Kashmir in connection with an alleged ISI-linked espionage racket. The accused, identified as Mohammed Sabar, was arrested on Saturday morning. This was the fourth arrest in connection with the racket allegedly headed by suspected ISI operative Kafaitullah Khan, who is already under police custody. More arrest is expected in next few hours as a team of eight officials has rushed to Siliguri to arrest one army official named Fareed.
