A couple was seriously injured after their daughter’s jilted lover ran riot in North-East Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar area on Sunday morning. The accused, Puspendra (21), allegedly shot at girl’s father and attacked her mother with a stick at their residence, police said.
According to the police, Pushpendra and Nidhi knew each other since schooldays and were in a relationship. But she later broke up with him. On Sunday around 9 am, Pushpendra reached Nidhi’s residence. He again proposed her and became furious on her refusal.
When girl’s father Yogesh Jain (52) intervened, Pushpendra whipped out a country-made pistol and shot at him. Hearing the commotion, Jain’s wife Poonam Jain (50) came out and he then attacked her with a heavy stick. She sustained head injuries. During the commotion, Nidhi locked herself in another room.
Pushpendra is absconding after committing the crime.“He had come well prepared with a country-made pistol and a stick. Yogesh sustained a bullet injury in his stomach,” said a police official.
Injured Jain and his wife were admitted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.“I rushed to Jain’s house and saw him lying in a pool of blood. His wife also lay near him in an unconscious state and their daughter was crying,” said Naresh, a neighbour of the family.
“Doctors operated on Jain. His condition is said to be stable. He sustained a single bullet injury. His wife also is stable. Investigations are on and the accused would be nabbed soon,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (North-East district) VV Chaudhary.Pushpendra’s father is a teacher and he resides in Sangam Vihar. The police are also questioning his family members.
