An extra-marital affair of an Air Force sergeant’s wife and her 17-year-old lover culminated in the gruesome death of the officer but their run from the law did not last long. The 28-year-old woman, a mother of a three-year old girl, and her juvenile lover were apprehended by Delhi Police in connection with the murder on Friday.

Investigations have revealed that Air Force Sergeant Ramesh Chandra (40) was strangled by his ‘sexually frustrated’ wife — Sudha Gupta and her lover on April 10. Shockingly, after killing her husband, the woman had claimed that he had suffered a cardiac arrest that caused his death. Since then, the two were living as a married couple in Vasant Gaon in South Delhi.

A senior police official of South-West district said that the incident occurred on April 10 when Chandra was taken to Medical Centre at Subroto Park. He was declared dead on arrival. His wife Sudha had reportedly told the doctors that her husband complained of chest pain and fell unconscious. “The doctors sensed foul play and reported the matter to police. The woman was constantly altering her statements. The post-mortem report confirmed his killing,” the official added.

On May 4, the post-mortem report revealed asphyxia and throttling as the cause of death. The injury marks were found to be ante-mortem. After receiving the report, a murder case was registered at Delhi Cantonment police station and a team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Suresh Kumar. On April 10, Chandra was at his Subroto Park residence along with his wife.

“Chandra had been drinking since morning. Taking advantage of the situation, his wife called her 17-year-old paramour to the house and told him to strangle her husband. She assumed that her husband was in an inebriated condition and no one would suspect her,” a police officer said.
