: Considering the ongoing civil and political unrest in Nepal, the Government of India (GoI) has issued advisory urging Indian citizens to defer all non-essential travel to the neighbouring country until the situation stabilises.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has advised Indian nationals currently in Nepal to shelter in place, avoid unnecessary movement, and follow local safety advisories issued by the Nepali authorities and the Indian Embassy. “In view of the developing situation in Nepal, Indian citizens are advised to defer travel there until the situation has stabilised. Indian citizens presently in Nepal are advised to shelter in their current places of residence, avoid going out onto the streets and exercise all due caution,” the advisory stated. The GoI also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in Nepal, particularly among the country’s youth.
“We are closely monitoring the developments in Nepal since yesterday and are deeply saddened by the loss of many young lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with families of the deceased. We also wish a speedy recovery for those who were injured.”
India has called for calm and restraint from all sides, urging that the ongoing crisis be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means.
“As a close friend and neighbour, we hope that all concerned will exercise restraint and address any issues through peaceful means and dialogue,” the statement added.
The Embassy of India in Kathmandu has activated emergency helplines to assist Indian nationals in distress. Citizens can reach out to the Embassy through the following numbers:

“We have also taken note that authorities have imposed curfew in Kathmandu and several other cities of Nepal. Indian nationals in Nepal are advised to exercise caution and adhere to the steps and guidelines issued by the Nepali authorities,” the statement said.
The situation in Nepal remains tense following the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and the outbreak of large-scale protests, primarily led by students and youth activists demanding political accountability and systemic reform. The unrest has led to widespread disruption of public services, the closure of Government offices, and the shutdown of air traffic at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport.
The Indian Embassy continues to monitor the situation and is in touch with Indian nationals and local authorities to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
The advisory is expected to remain in place until further notice, depending on how the situation evolves on the ground.
