Naked bodies of an unidentified man and a woman were found inside two steel trunks dumped near Tau Devi lal Park near NH-1 in Bahalgarh in Sonipat on Monday. The Haryana Police has sent five teams under the leadership of Gannaur DSP Satish Kumar to neighbouring States — Uttar Pradesh and Delhi — to crack the case, which it suspects to be a case of honour killing.

“The bodies were found in a naked state. While the man was around 30-year old, woman was around 25 to 30-year-old. The woman was wearing a chura, a set of bangles traditionally worn by newly-wed women,” Sonipat Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar told PTI.

Asked if it could be a case of honour killing, he said, nothing can be ruled out at this stage. “Police are making best effort to solve the case. We have sent our teams to different parts, including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi,” Kumar said, adding as the bodies were found close to National Highway 1, which borders Delhi on one side and Uttar Pradesh on the other. The bodies have been sent for postmortem. The State police have alerted its counterparts throughout the country and forwarded photographs of the duo in a bid to help establish the identity of the victims, the DSP added.

“We are also trying to find out if there was any missing persons complaint registered in any police station which matches the profile of the two victims,” he said. Kumar said that both bodies bore strangulation marks, it appeared that they were done to death somewhere else and the bodies were dumped here. The DSP said a case under various Sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) have been registered against unknown persons.

The victims’ body parts were intact and their face was also clear though there were some injury marks on the bodies, he said. “We cannot rule out honour killing in the case. It appears that as somebody had beaten them badly. Once their identity is established, it will help shed more light in the case,” the official said. The forensic experts also inspected the spot and collected evidences and finger prints from the spot.
