The wife of a police officer, who was part of the team that initially investigated the Sheena Bora murder case, was found murdered at their Santacruz (West) residence in north-west Mumbai, while their 21-year-old son is missing.
Deepali Ganore (42), wife of inspector Dnyeshwar Ganore, was found in a pool of blood by Dnyeshwar, when he returned home from work late on Tuesday. Deepal had been stabbed in the neck.
According to an unconfirmed report, their son Siddhanth, who is missing from home since Tuesday night, is the prime suspect in the case, which has sent ripples of shock waves in the Mumbai police force.
The unconfirmed report claimed that police found a grisly smiley drawn in blood next to her body and note saying “Tired of her. Catch me and hang me”. Police believe the message was written by their son.
However, senior inspector Mahadev Wavale attached to the Vakola police station where the case has been registered, said, “As of now we cannot say who killed Deepali. We have registered a case of murder against unknown persons and are investigating the case from all angles.”
Quoting Dnyeshwar’s statement, police said that he had returned home from work around 11 pm. He found that the door was locked. No one opened the door, despite his ringing the bell several times.
Dnyeshwar, who is posted at the Khar police station, made inquiries with his neighbours as to the whereabouts of his wife and son. Assuming that they might have gone for shopping, Dnyeshwar waited for a while.
According to the police, Dnyeshwar found the house keys to his house thrown in the dustbin kept outside the door. “Around 1am, Dnyeshwar spotted the keys to his house in the dustbin kept outside the door. He went inside and found his wife in pool of blood in the bedroom. She had been stabbed in the neck,” said Wavale.
Dnyeshwar informed the Vakola police. “We are obtaining the CCTV footage of the building. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” Wavale said.
Dnyeshwar was part the first team that had investigated the murder of Sheena Bora, the daughter of Indrani Mukherjea. Indrani and her erstwhile- media baron Peter Mukhejea are prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case and they are currently behind bars.
