Protests erupted in several parts of Gaya and the town observed a BJP-sponsored bandh on Monday to seek the arrest of Rocky Yadav, the absconding son of a JD(U) MlC in connection with the murder of a teenager in a road rage case. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar strongly asserted that the culprit would be arrested sooner or later.
In a shocking case of arrogance coupled with sheer disregard for the law of the land, Rocky Yadav shot 17-year-old Aditya Sachdeva, a student of Class XI, late on Saturday night in Gaya because the boy dared to overtake his Sports Utility Vehicle. The culprit Rocky Yadav, son of a history-sheeter father is on the run since the incident. Meanwhile, both the vehicles have been impounded by the Rampur police.
Reports said police conducted raids at several places to trace Rocky. Rocky’s father Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav alias Bindi Yadav, known in the area for his muscle and money power and his mother MlC Manorama Devi’s bodyguard were arrested on Sunday for allegedly helping the accused escape.
A Gaya court has remanded both Bindi Yadav and the MlC’s bodyguard Rajesh Kumar to 14 days’ judicial custody.
Meanwhile, shops and business establishments in Gaya remained shut in view of the bandh called by the BJP and other socio-political outfits to protest against the incident.
Protesters, led by leader of Opposition Prem Kumar, took out a procession near Kotwali police station, raising slogans against the State Government and demanding arrest of the culprits, were later detained by police.
Taking a tough position on the incident, Nitish said, “Nobody will be allowed to take the law into his own hands. Strict action will be taken against everybody involved in this incident. In the enquiry if her (JD(U) MlC’s) complicity is found action will be taken against her too,” said the CM.
Nitish said the bodyguard of the MlC has been suspended from service and a departmental action would also be initiated against him for the unauthorised act of accompanying the son of the legislator.
The CM said police were working without any interference and a Special Investigation Team has been constituted with the IG Police monitoring the case in Gaya.
Talking about the Opposition’s charge of lawlessness in Bihar, the CM said nobody could claim that no crime would occur.
“Only those who make baseless allegations can make claims that no crime would take place,” Nitish said and added that for him what was more important was the crime and not the individuals involved in it.
He said more heinous crimes were taking place in BJP-ruled States and even in Delhi where law and order and police is controlled by the Centre.
