South district police on Monday picked up a suspect after getting a tip-off from an eyewitness who saw a man repeatedly stabbing a puppy and three dogs at Green Park Metro Station.
Sources said police are questioning the man about his involvement in the sickening incident captured by CCTV cameras installed at the
metro station.
The Delhi Police on Monday refined the video grab of the man who was caught on camera stabbing three stray dogs and a puppy for around 18 minutes at Green Park Metro Station. Using a filtered image, police circulated posters
across the Capital and posted the CCTV footage on YouTube in a bid to identify the youth
in his 20s.
DCP (South) Premnath said, “We have accessed more footage from a CCTV camera installed in a shop near the metro station premises and obtained a close-up image of the man, who is yet to be identified.”
“The posters, in the form of a Hue and Cry Notice, have been issued to get information about this maniac,” said a police officer investigating the case.
The man in the CCTV footage is fair-skinned, sports a beard and is wearing a jacket, shorts and slippers. However, some locals who have seen the grab were unable to recognise the man.
Initially police had claimed that all four dogs had died, but senior police officials later confirmed that only the puppy
had died while the three adult dogs that were grievously injured are undergoing a series of surgeries.
An NGO, Humane Society International/India (HIS/India) has also announced a
reward of Rs 1 lakh for anyone who helps identify the accused, police said.
“This incident exposes the violent nature of this man and it’s essential for the safety of the animals and society that this man is put behind bars,” said NG Jayasimha, managing director of HSI/India.
