Ahigh-voltage drama that unfolded on the streets of Connaught Place late on Tuesday night culminated in the arrest of a 26-year-old woman and her 45-year-old male friend. They were sent to one-day judicial custody after their Mercedes Benz rammed into two people on a motorcycle in front of gate No. 6 of Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and they beat up the victims of the accident and misbehaved with the police and doctors of the hospital where they were taken for a medical tests.
“Two cases of drunken driving and criminal intimidation respectively were registered against the duo at Connaught Place Police Station, as they allegedly created a ruckus after crashing into the bike and later
misbehaved with police and doctors,” said DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal.
The incident occurred around 1.30 am when the couple, identified as Neha Jamal and Dr Prashant Agrawal, was heading towards Noida after spending the evening at a bar in Connaught Place. It is alleged that both the persons were in an inebriated state.
Dr Agrawal runs MITR Hospital in Sector-37 of Noida and he was driving in the inner circle of Connaught Place when the mishap took place.
“Dr Agrawal was driving the Mercedes Benz and it appears that he lost control as he was drunk and rammed into a bike that was taking a left turn. Two men on the bike, identified as Sonu and Rajat fell hard after the bike was hit from behind. However, instead of apologising and taking the injured to the hospital, Dr Agrawal and Neha started hurling abuses at them and even roughed them up,” the DCP said.
“The girl hit the men first and then got into a heated argument with police officers and doctors,” said DCP.
The girl was intimidating the bike riders by stating that she belongs to a renowned family and her father is in CBI.” However, it is alleged that later it was found out that she was boasting to her weight around.
The first call to the Police Control Room (PCR) was made by the girl herself and when police personnel reached the spot, she started abusing and misbehaving with them. The cops then asked for female constables to handle the girl while her male friend was taken care of by the staff of the Connaught Place Police Station. The girl again called up the PCR after reaching the hospital and reportedly misbehaved with the nursing staff and the doctors on duty, said a police officer.
Meanwhile, the wife of Dr Prashant also reached the hospital. The girl fought with her also and it took some time for the police to pacify her. She refused to undergo medical test while her male friend agreed to the tests. He was found under the influence of liquor while the doctors also wrote on the medico-legal case (MlC) that Neha was also drunk. Police registered two first information reports against Neha and Dr Prashant under sections 279 (rash driving), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 355(assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It has been revealed that Neha had worked in the Human Resources Department of Dr Prashant’s hospital and was fired from her job after his wife objected to her presence. Despite being ousted from the hospital, she was in constant touch with Dr Prashant and had come to a pub on Tuesday night with him, a police official added.
