DND toll hike: Four wheelers to pay Rs25, bikers Rs12

SR

Commuters using Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Flyway, a major road connecting Delhi to Noida, will have to pay more from midnight on Sunday as the Noida Toll Bridge Company limited (NTBCl) has increased its toll charges. From April 1, a four-wheeler will have to pay Rs25 against the present Rs22. The authority will charge Rs12 from two wheeler users. Present charge for two-wheeler is Rs11.

While justifying the toll hike, spokesperson of the DND operator Anwar Abbasi said from November last year the toll charges had to be reduced after the number of vehicles increased on the stretch when Kalindi Kunj Bridge was closed for repairing.

“There is an agreement between us and Noida authority that if the number of users increases, we will reduce the toll charges. Hence the number of vehicle increased, we decrease the charges. Now, the number has once again come down to normal, we have to hike the toll charges, which are as per the agreement,” he said.

Normally 60, 000 vehicles use the DND flyway though during the closure of Kalindi Bridge the number reached 1.20 lakh. Before the November 12, 2012, the users were paying Rs 25 for four-wheeler and Rs 12 for two-wheeler. “As the number of users has reduced, we have restored the toll charges which were being collected till November 2012,” Abbasi added.

Kalindi Kunj Bridge was closed for repairing November 12, 2012 to February 23, 2013. The toll charges for heavy vehicles have been restored as per the provisions of the agreement.
