The decomposed body of a 40-year- old man was found hanging from a tree in the forest on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus on Tuesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Rampravesh Singh, a labourer or security guard on the university campus, police said. Police suspect that Rampravesh, a resident of Saraswati enclave in Najafgarh, committed suicide six-seven days ago.
Police received a call around 5.45pm that a man has been found hanging on the Nelson Mandela road inside JNU forest, said a senior police officer. Police have found a Samsung phone, Aadhaar card, voter ID card, driving licence, and a purse containing Rs 90 and a badge from his clothes.
The body has been sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for post-mortem. Police further said that investigation has been initiated under section 174 of the CrPC (Inquest Proceedings).
