As the probe threw up links of at least two politicians in the extortion racket allegedly run by Dawood Ibrahim’s arrested younger brother Iqbal Kaskar, the Thane Police on Tuesday indicated that they would consider invoking MCOCA against Kaskar and also probe the possible involvement of fugitive Dawood in the racket.
“The politicians could be of the rank of corporators or may be even higher. Some builders are also suspected to be involved with this gang. These are subject of investigations,” Thane Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said.
A day after the Anti-Extortion Cell arrested Kaskar and two others, Mumtaz Shaikh and Israr Ali Jamil Sayyed, on extortion charges, all the three were produced before a Thane court which remanded them in police custody for eight days.
