The clamour for death penalty to child rapists grew louder on Sunday with CPM leader Sitaram Yechury on Sunday backing leader of Opposition in the lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on the issue.
“We are willing to discuss and consider this because what happened in this Delhi rape case is gruesome. There is something seriously wrong in the society and there is no fear of the law,” he said. Swaraj had asked Home Minister Shinde to convene an all-party meeting to consider death penalty for such offenders. “Nothing short of death sentence in cases of rape of children and cases involving brutality and barbarity will help,” she had said.
