Cricketer Manoj Tiwary on Wednesday joined the Trinamool Congress in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Tiwary, who has played 12 ODIs and three T20s, joined the Bengal ruling party along with a number of Bengali film personalities, including Kanchan Mallick and Sayani Ghosh, during a rally at Hooghly. Chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for the Protection of Child Rights Ananya Chakraborti Chatterjee too joined the TMC.
Tiwary’s joining the TMC comes more than a month after his former team mate Laxmi Ratan Shukla quit the party and the State Cabinet citing personal reasons.
“A new journey begins from today. Need all your love & support,” Tiwary tweeted and later said “BJP is playing divisive policy and Mamata Banerjee is trying to unite people together. When I play cricket, I play for the country, not on the basis of religion.
