Two mysterious men in a Haryana registration number SUV knocked on the doors of five Congress Members of legislative Assembly (MlAs) on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday and tried to tell them that they were sent by Congress High Command to convey the message that the MlAs should withdraw support to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government.

Three of the MlAS called up Police Control Room (PCR) as they grew suspicious of the men and their motives. The MlAs had a reason to doubt them as it was too bizarre for them that the party leadership would choose such a method to inform them that too in the dead of the night.

If the Congress High Command was to withdraw the support to the Arvind Kejriwal Government, they would not send emissaries in this mannerIJ Delhi Police is conducting an investigation in this regard to identify the two mysterious men who moved from South East Delhi to Outer Delhi to convey the messages.  Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Arvinder Singh lovely convened a meeting on Thursday evening to deliberate over the issue that looked very dicey, sources said.

According to the information, two men aged between 28 to 30 and 45 to 50 years riding a black SUV bearing registration no. HR-11E-1168 first reached the residence of Chaudhary Mateen Ahmed, the Congress MlA from Seelampur at around 2 am. They pressed the bell and asked about the MlA. Ahmed was woken up and he came to his balcony and asked about the identity of the two strangers. “They told me that they have been sent by the Congress High Command to convey the message that they will not support the Kejriwal Government”, said Mateen Ahmed. “It was strange for me as I am loyal worker of the party and have five times in a row. Why would my party leadership use such a way to inform me about this development”, the MlA said, adding that he told them that party leaders were having his numbers and if indeed there was such a development they will call him”. Ahmed chose not to report the matter to the police but informed the state and the central leadership about this.

It appears that the two shady characters had visited the house of Badli MlA Devender Yadav with the same message but were shooed away by the two-term party MlA who doubted their version. Yadav spoke to the DPCC President and senior Congress leaders about the two strangers who tried to meet him during odd hours in the night.

The SUV then moved towards the Okhla residence of Asif Mohammad Khan the Congress MlA from Okhla constituency. The SUV was noticed moving around the residence of Khan around 3 am. His security personnel confronted the duo about their movement in the area. They reportedly told them that they wanted to meet the MlA to convey an important message from the party high command. Khan came to his balcony and spoke to them and was shocked to hear from them that they were purportedly sent by the party leadership to tell them that they were not supposed to support the AAP Government. Khan grew suspicious of their intentions and made five calls to the PCR and called up the areas Station House Officer (SHO) and apprised him about the two men. Khan also provided the registration number of the vehicles used by the two men.

Khan too spoke to the party leadership about the development and describes the details. The SUV then moved towards the Ashoka Apartment at Rajpur Road residence behind Raj Niwas of the Chandni Chowk MlA Prahlad Singh Sawhney. Sawhney said that the duo spoke to the security men and asked about the MlA at around 4 am. They used the phone of the security guard to talk to the MlA and told him what they had tried to tell to other Congress MlAs. Sawhney called up the SHO Civil lines and apprised the development and inform him about the suspicious persons.

The Congress MlA said that he has conveyed the development to party leadership. The Congress MlA also showed video footage of the incident. Sawhney also stated that newly elected Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh lovely has called an emergency meeting in the evening to discuss the matter. “It would be difficult to say that who is behind the whole episode,” he said.

It is learnt that that the two men tried to meet Hasan Ahmed, the Congress MlA from Mustafabad seat but did not succeed. A senior Delhi Police official said that the incident is being investigated as they have the CCTV grabs that clearly showed the two men and the vehicle used by them.
