The Centre on Monday announced to go for a massive increase in the number of examination centres for the pending CBSE Class X and XII board exams.

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that the exams will be now spread to 15,000 centres instead of 3,000 test centre across the country to maintain social distancing norms. The pending exams are to be held from July 1 to July 15, with results expected to be announced by late July .

“Earlier, as per the direction of Home Ministry the board was slated to hold the exams at only 3,000 exam centres. However,  the number of exam centres has been increased by 12,000 considering the Covid-19 situation and the need for social distancing among students,” said a senior HRD Ministry official.

Normally, CBSE assigns external exam centres for board exams to ensure transparency and minimise biases and allow external invigilators to evaluate exam papers. However, looking at the extra-ordinary situation that exists now, the board has decided to do away with the practice of allotting external exam centres for now.
