Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday unearthed a major admission racket at Delhi University (DU) involving Hindu College, Kirori Mal College, Dayal Singh College, Bhagat Singh College, Aurobindo College, Kamla Nehru College and Ram lal Anand College. Four people have been arrested for allegedly running the racket which helped students get admission to DU colleges using forged documents. The accused were allegedly behind 25 fake admissions in various colleges of North and South Campus.
The gang also created fake websites of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar educational boards as most of their candidates belonged to these States, police said. They used to upload fake certificates/mark-sheets on these websites to ensure online verification of documents by colleges.  Those involved in the admission process failed to detect the fraud and they took the mark-sheets furnished by the candidates to be genuine as they were uploaded on the bogus websites.
Crime Branch officials said they will probe the role of all those college officials who cleared the admissions of the students with forged mark-sheets.The scamsters used to charge `3 to `7 lakh from students seeking admission in a college and course of their choice. The students who took admissions on the basis of the forged documents provided by the gang are likely to be arrested for their involvement in the fraud.
They racketeers also prepared fake degrees of various universities for candidates seeking jobs in the private sector. The probe has been expanded further to identify more players who could be part of this flourishing racket, a senior police officer involved in the probe said.According to Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav, a Crime Branch team arrested Sunil Panwar (41), Mohammad Juber (25), Ranchit Khurana (30) and Praveen Jha (35) on Wednesday for running the admission racket using fake mark-sheets, migration certificates, degrees, character certificates and other such papers. They were arrested from Malviya Nagar main market on a tip-off, Yadav added.
A case has been registered against the four who were running the racket for nearly three years. During interrogation, they said gang leaders Sunil Panwar and Zubeir, a final year student of Aurobindo College, used to scout for candidates who could not get admission in DU. Ranchit Khurana the other member of the gang was involved in procuring fake documents for such candidates from Praveen Jha, the officer said.
The Crime Branch raided Jha’s West Vinod Nagar residence and recovered a large number of blank and complete degrees, mark-sheets, caste certificates and other documents. Computers, printers and stamps of different schools and education boards were also recovered from there, he said.Documents of students who are suspected to have secured admission on the basis of forged documents are being obtained from the colleges concerned and will be examined, Yadav said.
