In a shocking incident, a Jharkhand BJP leader Seema Patra, who is also the wife of a former IAS officer Maheshwar Patra, has been accused of confining and torturing a tribal woman who was working in their house as a domestic help for the last six years.
The BJP suspended Seema Patra, a member of the National Working Committee of the party’s women wing, after the video was widely shared online on Tuesday.
In the video, Sunita, who is lying on a hospital bed in RIMS, Ranchi, looking emaciated, shocked and dazed can be seen describing her ordeal, which included her teeth being smashed in with an iron rod.
Jharkhand BJP chief Deepak Prakash ordered the action against Seema Patra after the videos of her domestic help with injury marks on her body, accusing her of torture went viral. The video of Sunita, who is incapable of sitting up due to the repeated assaults, evoked strong reactions and there were calls for Seema Patra’s arrest.
