The Goa Police is likely to arrest Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal on Saturday. Investigating officer Inspector Sunita Sawant is expected to reach the Capital on Saturday morning, along with a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Goa Director General of Police Kishan Kumar said that the police team will question Tejpal in Delhi first then will take him to Panaji to join the investigation in detail. The Delhi Police also deployed its men at Tejpal’s residence in Jangpura to prevent any untoward incident following the protest by Akhil Bharatiya

Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) outside Tehelka’s office. A senior police official of the Goa Police said that they will now initiate legal proceedings against Shoma Chaudhury, Managing Director of Tehelka, for suppressing and concealing facts. The investigating officers had on Thursday sent an email to Shoma explain how her actions were against the law.

“It was her duty to inform the law enforcing agencies about the incident as soon as she came to know of it. By not doing so she has violated section 201 (tampering with evidence) of the Indian Penal Code,” said an official. Sources from the Delhi Police revealed that they provide logistical support to a Goa police team when it reaches Delhi.

Earlier in the afternoon, activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested in front of the Tehelka office in Greater Kailash-II against the irresponsible remarks of Shoma Chaudhury regarding the victim.
