Almost three-and-a-half years after the high-profile Arun Jaitley Call Detail Record (CDR) access case, the Delhi Police has unearthed another snooping case and arrested five people — including the freelancer, who was involved in Jaitley’s episode. The gang procured over 4,000 sensitive CDRs with the help of Narender Kumar, a Constable of the Uttar Pradeh Police and sold them to clients seeking to snoop in matrimonial matters, legal disputes, business rivalries and financial enquiries, a senior Crime Branch official said on Sunday. Those arrested were identified as Pankaj Tiwari, Jaiveer Rathore, Arpit Sharma, alias Aditya Sharma and Sanjeev Chaudhary. They were allegedly involved in procuring and selling CDRs of the targets, whom they were spying upon. The Delhi Police has also arrested the constable from Kanpur.
“We got a tip-off that Scorpion Verification and Consultancy Private limited, a detective agency in Janakpuri, is procuring CDRs for Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000. A decoy customer approached the detective agency and met owner Pankaj Tiwari and asked him to produce a sample CDR before settling a deal with him. Tiwari, after charging an initial part amount of Rs 5,000 from the decoy, produced an already procured CDR and after verifying its authenticity, he was apprehended,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).
During interrogation, Tiwari confessed that he used to purchase these CDRs from Jaiveer Rathore who owns a Media agency called Abhi Tak and also a detective agency. On his instance, Jaiveer Singh was arrested.
“Jaiveer revealed that he got all the CDRs with the help of Narender Kumar, a Constable in UP Police.
Narendra is posted in Surveillance Cell at the office of Inspector General of Police, Kanpur. Jaiveer Singh used to collect orders of CDRs from various detective agencies for amounts ranging between Rs 5,000 to 30,000 depending upon the quantity and period of CDR procured and after paying to Narender per CDR,” Yadav added.
Police said at the instance of Jaiveer Singh, Arpit Sharma, an accused in snooping case of BJP leader Arun Jaitley, was also apprehended from Uttam Nagar area in Delhi. After coming out on bail, Arpit Sharma had changed his name. He was also obtaining CDRs of various clients with the help of Jaiveer Singh.
“We have also arrested senior sales manager Sanjeev Chaudhary of company as he was in regular touch with Jaiveer Singh and obtained several CDRs of its clients,” Yadav said.
Police said the case is under investigation. “We are finding out how many CDRs these detective agencies have obtained. We have asked senior officials of BlS company to join the probe,” Yadav said.
Police said they are going through details of every mobile number that was snooped by these detective agencies. “Till now, we have not found details of any politician, bureaucrats or VIP. These detective agencies have usually snooped cases of marital woes, business rivalries or pre-matrimony verification,” said a senior police official.
