In yet another shocking incident of crime against women, a 19-year-old woman was attacked with acid by her 34-year-old husband and two of his brothers in Outer Delhi’s Rohini Sector 16 area on Tuesday night, on the eve of Karva Chauth. Victim Amanpreet Kaur sustained injuries to her neck, hands and legs, and her minor sister, 10, who was accompanying her, also sustained minor burn injuries on her leg.

According to police, the incident took place around 9:30 pm at District Park, Sardar Colony, Rohini Sector-16. Amanpreet, along with her sister, was walking towards a beauty parlour when she was confronted by her husband Pradeep. He asked her to accompany him to the local park to sort out their differences. When she refused, he dragged her by her hair inside the District Park where his brothers — Jeetu and Kapil — were waiting, said police.

Amanpreet and Pradeep had a love marriage around five months back but the couple developed differences after which she left him, added police.

“She had left her in-laws house on October 5 and had been staying at her parents’ place in Rohini. On Tuesday, Amanpreet met Pradeep and he asked her to return to his house. The victim refused and Pradeep poured acid on her,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer district) MN Tiwari.

Pradeep also sustained burn injuries as she fought off and the acid spilled on him in the process. He has been arrested, while two of his brothers identified as Jeetu and Kapil are absconding, said Tiwari.

Amanpreet lived with her mother, who runs a small eatery at Sardar Colony. Amanpreet was visiting her aunt who works at a local parlour to finalise her travel plans to attend a relative’s funeral in Punjab.

Amanpreet’s sister rushed to her house and narrated the entire incident. Amanpreet and Pradeep were initially taken to Dr Baba Sahab Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini. The doctors then referred them to Safdarjung Hospital.

Meanwhile, Amanpreet’s family registered a case at KN Katju Marg police station.

“We received the complaint from the victim’s family. A case has been registered under 326 (A) of IPC. Both husband and wife sustained 40 per cent burn an injury. They were discharged from Safdurjung Hospital at 4 am on Wednesday. Pradeep was arrested,” said the DCP.
