Two 45-storeyed towers will be the hallmark of Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh. According to the Master Plan of the capital presented by a team of Singapore Government officials to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday at Rajahmundry, the core area will be spread over 16.9 sq km.

The twin towers, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology, will house the State Government’s offices. S Iswaran, Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry unveiled the spectacular plans of the Capital in the presence of Chief Minister Naidu.

The core capital area will have major buildings like the State Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, the State Assembly and the State High Court. Speaking on the occasion Naidu said: “We will build a Capital which will be the pride of Telugu people. Amaravati will be an environment-friendly, attractive and self-sufficient city.”

It will have three lakh housing units and will provide jobs to seven lakh people, he added. Iswaran said that if the Andhra Pradesh Government agrees, Singapore will partner in the construction of the new Capital. “With the Master Plan of the Capital, our work of preparing the plans for the entire Capital has been completed,” he added.

The plan also includes the development of Krishna riverfront into a picturesque tourist attraction. Similarly the small islands in the middle of the river will also be developed into tourist hubs. This is the second Master Plan prepared and presented by Singapore Govern-ment to Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier it had handed over the Master Plan for the entire Capital city covering the surrounding areas.

The proposed Capital of global standards will also have an information technology hub and a business district and will have a total capacity to accommodate a population of four million people.

The Master Plan, to be fully implemented by the year 2050 will have one mega city, seven regional centers and seven development corridors and 1,000 km of roads connecting the Capital to other parts of the States.

“The Government will work with the target of providing jobs to 30 lakh people by 2035 and to 56 lakh people by 2050,” the Chief Minister said. While the Capital has been designed by Singapore, the Andhra Government has also sought technical assistance from Japan and other countries to implement this Master Plan. Naidu has formally extended an invitation to the Japanese Prime Minister to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Capital later this year.
