Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday ruled out the possibility of an alliance with any political party during the 2014 lok Sabha elections even as she claimed that her party will benefit due to the internal differences within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“I want to make it very clear that we will fight alone,” Mayawati said in a bid to put an end to rumour mills suggesting the possibility of BSP forging an alliance before the general elections. This, she said, was being done to damage the prospects of her party. “The reports that our party can have outside or internal alliance with Congress or BJP are all rumours,” she maintained.
She pointed out that even before the lok Sabha polls BSP is contesting Assembly elections in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh independently.
The BSP supremo also said her party was going to benefit from BJP’s infighting. “lK Advani, Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh are trying to outdo each other and this would only work in favour of my party in
She alleged the SP Government in the State has failed to maintain law and order and was triggering riots in connivance with the BJP.
“As the time of lok Sabha elections comes nearer, SP and BJP, in a bid to give political advantage to each other as a part of tacit understanding, will vitiate atmosphere by spreading communal poison,” she alleged and reiterated her demand for President’s Rule in the State.
Reacting sharply to a query on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that she did not allow any other Dalit leadership to emerge, Mayawati retorted, “Who has stopped Congress from letting Dalit leadership emergeIJ They can let not one but thousands of leaders to emerge”.
Mayawati also ruled out any immediate action against her party MP Dhananjay Singh, arrested along with his wife in connection with the murder of their domestic help in Delhi, saying the party would wait for the law to take its course.
Irked by the controversy over allotment of bungalows to her party in lutyens’ zone of Delhi, she hit out at the media accusing it of an “anti-Dalit mentality” by making attempts to sully her image before the coming elections. “After a long struggle, we got two additional Type-V bungalows as per the rules which were merged to extend Bahujan Prerna Kendra on an area of about one-and-a-half acres of land, but a section of the electronic media and some newspapers are beaming it as a big news that we have got a big piece of land from the Central Government,” Mayawati said.
“Earlier too, lands were provided for memorials and museums of other leaders, but newspapers and TV channels have not gone after them. Several residential bungalows had been turned into party offices but they were never discussed. This only proves their (media’s) anti-Dalit mentality,” she said
She further said that as the land on which the Kendra was earlier set up was not enough to house all things connected with the memory of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, a request for adjoining two bungalows was made as per rules and were later made available. “The expenditure on Prerna Kendra is being made by our trust whereas at other places it has been done on Government cost but those having anti-Dalit mentality call it flouting of rules,” she said.
