In order to create an environment of safety and prevent harassment of women in public transport, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the number of marshals on buses in the national capital will be increased by nearly 10,000 on the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj on Tuesday.
Thus the total number of bus marshals will rise to 13,000 on the day the Delhi Government is implementing the free ride scheme for women in DTC and cluster buses.
Currently there are 5,500 buses in Delhi and about 3,400 bus marshals are already deployed.
“Two crore people of Delhi are like my family and as the CM I am like an elder son of this family. It is my duty to ensure that each person gets free electricity up to 200 units for 24 hours, to send elders to teerth-yatras... However, it has been a matter of concern for me that the women of my family do not feel safe in the city,” Kejriwal said while addressing the marshals at the training session at Thyagraj Stadium here.
