Once again, Delhi University, one of India’s premium higher education institutions, hogged the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Day One of the online admission procedure – which was aimed at making an exhausting task easier - was marked by utter chaos, confusion and delays as the University failed to fix loopholes in its online procedures for the second year running.
A system malfunction led to the website crashing. This made the entire admission process a very stressful task for deserving candidates who felt helpless as they were unable to complete the process and hence remain uncertain about their future. The only solace for a select few was that in a marked departure from yesteryears, cut-off marks for a bunch of popular undergraduate courses in some top colleges did see a marginal dip this year. Not that they could have gone higher given as cut-offs last year had soared as high as 99 per cent! A further drop in cut-offs is in the offing in subsequent lists.
Nevertheless, in the digital era there can be no scope for technical/administrative glitches if India has to really feature on the World University Ranking list.
