Sanjeev Shrivastava, a 46-year-old electronics professor from Madhya Pradesh, has gone viral with his dancing moves to one of actor Govinda’s hit numbers. And the professor believes in perfection. For the video, shot on May 12, 2018 during the sangeet of Shrivastava’s brother-in-law in Gwalior, has got a reaction from the actor no less. “More than half a dozen heroes have copied my steps and nobody has done it so well! It felt like he was dancing with all his heart and having fun,” said Govinda. More than the appreciation, it is the lessons that Shrivastava holds out to us that are the key. Dance as if no one is looking, said someone and the professor seems to have imbibed the lesson to the T. He makes his killer moves and gives two hoots to the jiggling tummy or the onlookers, joie de vivre writ large on his face. He’s honest and precise for he has imitated each move as it is meant to. And if someone says professors are uncool and don’t know how to have fun, they certainly need to take lessons from Shrivastava — outside the class. For a time in the late 80s and the early part of the liberalised 90s, corporates were watching Govinda films to destress themselves. That stress has only multiplied manifold. Shrivastava reminds us of the need to shake ourselves out of it.
