Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav cautioned his partymen not to be misled by the praise heaped on him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a Saharanpur rally recently. He stressed that he would continue exposing fake promises and anti-people policy of the NDA governent at the Centre.

Mulayam was addressing a meeting of party workers in lucknow on Tuesday at a function to mark the second death anniversary of former MP and veteran socialist leader Mohan Singh.

Admitting that the PM’s admiration was a matter of pride for  socialists, Mulayam thundered: “The party leaders and cadre should have seen through the political intent behind this. The PM has conned the nation by making false promises in the run-up to lok Sabha polls. Unfortunately, my partymen failed to make people aware of these. Had the party cadre acted at the right time, the political scenario would have been different.”

The SP chieftain explained: “The cadre must have a clear understanding of the issue. I had cornered the PM in lok Sabha by raising the promises made by him during poll campaign like liberating the Indian territory from the occupation of Pakistan and China, providing Rs 15 lakh to each voter and providing jobs to the unemployed. But Modi never replied to the query.”

Mulayam reiterated the charge that party MlAs were complacent and not working for the people in their constituencies. “None of the MlAs is interested in popularising the achievements of the state government. Even district chiefs fight shy of mentioning my name during party meetings.’’

Targeting party leaders jostling  for power and nomination to Rajya Sabha and legislative Council, the SP chief said: “I am a mass leader and get the report from grass root level. I am aware of the activities that most leaders are involved in. Everybody wants to enjoy power but none is willing to sweat it out and work for the masses.”

“The Samajwadi Party is a ‘heady concotion of people’ (Shankarji ki barat) where everybody cannot be like Mohan Singh. Yet you should shed inferiority complex and get in touch with people. You still have time, go to the people, fight back and recover the lost ground,” advised the SP chief.
