A day before the hanging of the sole death-row convict of 1993 Mumbai blasts case Yakub Abdul Razzak Memon in Nagpur, director general of police, Jagmohan Yadav had put the forces on high alert suspecting of some untoward incident just to create panic.
Memon would be hanged on Thursday morning as the Supreme Court rejected his plea seeking stay to the execution.
According to official communiqué of the Home Department, Jagmohan Yadav, through an advisory to all district police chiefs, range DIGs, zonal IGs along with officers of the Government Railway Police, released on Wednesday evening asked them to remain on alert on Thursday in wake of Memon’s capital punishment. He directed the officials to carry on checking at crowded public places, cinema halls, multiplexes, vital installations etc as the miscreants might try to fuel tension through mischief on the day.
Sources said that instructions were also given to request the Muslim religious and community leaders not to make any public statement or speech about Memon after the hanging. If any inflammatory speech or a remark is made, the police would take prompt action, sources said. Directions have been also given to deploy adequate forces in the sensitive areas particularly in the localities which had mixed populations.
