Annoyed with his drinking habit, a woman battered her husband to death and later spent the night with the body to keep her children in the dark. However, the incident came to the fore on Monday night after which police arrested the woman and sent the body for autopsy.
The heart-wrenching incident took place in Rae Bareli on December 17. According to reports, Atul, who was a resident of Sahgo Paschim village in Bachhrawan police station area, was a liquor addict while his wife Annu works at a beauty parlour besides taking care of their children.
Atul also used to work but would spend his money and that earned by his wife on liquor. He would also beat his wife while demanding more money for liquor. Fed up with her husband’s habit, Annu decided to eliminate him and started looking for an opportune moment.
On December 17 last, Atul returned home in a drunken state and started beating his wife. Annu fought back and hit him on the head with a stick. When Atul fell unconscious, Annu strangled him to death.
She later slept with the body so that her children could not learn of the incident. Annu got up on Sunday morning and went about her daily routine. She returned home in the evening and put the children to sleep after serving them food.
Around midnight, Annu dragged her husband’s body to the gate and threw it there before going to sleep.
She woke up the next morning and started crying to attract the attention of neighbours. She told the neighbours that her husband came home drunk the previous night, fell down and died. Her neighbours informed police about the incident.
During preliminary investigation, the police took her claims on face value. However, it later came to the fore that her husband had died of strangulation and was also hit on the head with a blunt object. The police rounded up Annu and she spilled the beans during interrogation. A case was registered by the police and the woman was sent to jail on Tuesday.
