Intelligence report on further trouble in Western UP as put the state government on hold from taking any further legal proceedings against the `bigwigs’ who made inflammatory speech which pushed Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts in worst ever communal violence resulting into 49 causalities so far.
Interestingly, when Muzaffarnagar police claimed to be making all out efforts to arrest some of the MlAs who were named in the First Information Report, the said leaders were seen raising the issue of violence and their harassment during the first day of Monsoon Session. later in defence of the administration, Parliamentary Affairs minister Azam Khan said that arrest of MlAs could not be made as the House is in progress but the law enforcing agencies will do their job with the progress in investigation.
Sources said that the local administration in Muzaffarnagar who withdraw the curfew after the situation turned normal on Tuesday, is worried to take action against prominent persons which included MlAs, former MPs along with senior leaders of Bharatiya Kishan Union (BKU). An intelligence report had put the administration on `Hold’ at least for some time, as it apprehended that the arrest of these leaders will once again pushed the region into trouble particularly with their supporters taking road and indulging in unlawful activities.
Not only this, the administration is also in catch-22 situation as they still not get green signal to initiate legal proceedings against leaders of one particular community and any action on members of another community will create trouble for maintaining peace in the area. So far the administration booked only 8 petty persons under the National Security Act (NSA) in the entire region comprising of Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Saharanpur and Bagpat.
Sources also confirmed that besides the above, in action of the cops in taking action against bigwigs is also reportedly due to Government unwanted move by suspending just than SSP of Muzaffarnagar Subash Chandra Dubey and initiating departmental proceeding against him and sparing the district chief of Shamli, Abdul Hamid just as was reportedly closed to one of the most powerful cabinet minister in Akhilesh Yadav’s government. ``When the state had already witnessed one of the worst communal violence so at least now the Government should make balancing act and not just tried to appease a particulary community by suspending one of the officers and that too minutes before the visit of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav”, disclosed a senior officer who claimed that entire state machinery from top to bottom is responsible for the riots so action against just one officer would fail to send strong signal that chief minister is not going to tolerate the lethargic approach in handing such volatile situations.
Meanwhile the district magistrate of Muzaffanagar lifted the curfew after finding that the situation remained completely under control since the last few days. He also asked to withdraw the Army from the area once the jawans of the Central Para-Military Force, sought from the Centre were available to replace them for maintaining law and order situation. So far 203 persons were arrested in connection with the violence while 1918 were detained for violating prohibitory orders.
