Retired bureaucrat and national convener of lok Gathbandhan Party (lGP) Vijay Shankar Pandey criticized the Union and state governments for their lopsided economic policies which caused a massive divide between the rich and the poor.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Pandey said that over the decades neither the Union nor the state governments ever formulated a balanced approach to fill the rising gap between the rich and the poor. He said that while the country’s wealth has become confined to a handful of people, the poor became poorer for which government policies were responsible.

The lGP leader claimed that all economic policies formulated by successive governments neither helped the masses nor the nation as a whole and only benefited the rich and powerful. “Such continued state of affairs would only lead to a national disaster. “Billionaire Raj” in the country has become curse for have-nots,” he opined.

Pandey further said that political parties and some political families, by their farcical slogans only cheated the masses to serve their vested interests. He said that lGP has been regularly raising the issue of widening gap between the rich and the poor and formulated developmental programmes targeting the masses.

The lGP Convenor said that while vast natural resources were being devasted by a handful people, there was an unending list of financial scandals all over the country which became a drain on the exchequer.

“With rising income inequality, the economic scenario is extremely grim and ruling parties all over the country were involved in a charade in the name of alleviating the poor,” he alleged.

Pandey felt that the country’s economic system needed complete overhaul and the need of the hour was to implement people-oriented policies and ensurer equal distribution of resources among masses.
