The Congress and the BJP legislators had a verbal duel in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday over security and snooping of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi forcing Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey to adjourn the House during the zero hour. The Congress members raised the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s security leading to political espionage through an adjournment notice which was vehemently opposed by the BJP. later members of both the parties rushed to the well of the House forcing Speaker to adjourn the House.
Congress member Anugurah Narain Singh alleged that Centre’s snooping on Rahul Gandhi was a threat on the life of the leader. “One should not forget that he belongs to that family which has witnessed two assassinations. Rahul Gandhi has SPG cover and such enquiries by Delhi Police hints at an act to espionage,” he said.
He said ‘Rahul Gandhi is the member of the Parliament from Amethi in UP and hence adequate security should be provided to him whenever he comes to visit his constituency. However, BJP members opposed the Congress statement saying this matter does not concern UP and already the issue has been taken up in the Parliament. The leaders also demanded that the statement of the Congress leaders should be removed from the records.
When a Congress member made an indirect comment on the Centre, the BJP members entered into the well of the House raising slogans against Congress. In retaliation Congress members too raised slogans against the BJP. later speaker pacified the members and asked Parliamentary Affairs minister Md Azam Khan to give a reply. Azam Khan assured that special security would be provided to Rahul Gandhi during his visit to UP.
