Hitting out at Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav BJP MP Varun Gandhi accused the ruling Samajwadi Party government of ignoring the plights of farmers and threatened that party would launch a stir if the government does not resolve the problems of the farmers.
While addressing a public gathering in Nighasan in Khiri on Sunday Gandhi said that the state government has not made any effort to clear the cane dues of the farmers. “The crushing season has come to an end still the cane due is around Rs 6000 crore. The Government is playing in the hands of the mill owners as government is giving concessions to the millers but nothing has been done for the farmers,” Gandhi said.
He said when Akhilesh Yadav came to power he promised to resolve all the problems of the farmers. He promised that his government will set up commission that will evaluate the prices of the agriculture produce.
“What happened to those promisesIJ Recently the state was ravaged by incessant rains and last year many parts of the state reported drought. The Government seems to have no plan to combat natural disaster. The government is totally insensitive because of this the farmers were suffering,” BJP MP said.
On the law and order front Gandhi said that crime rate in the state has gone up. People are afraid of venturing out in the evening. One cannot expect improvement in law and order if ministers in the government are found involved in criminal activities, he said.
He said people are fed up with this government and looking for a change. The BJP will ameliorate the grievances of the people and it has emerged as its true savior, Gandhi said.
later talking to reporters after distributing compensatory cheques to farmers who had suffered the crop loss owing to inclement weather Gandhi said that any political designation or post was not at all important for him or his family.
“Posts does not matter for me. My family has held many big posts in the Indian political history. So I am not concerned. I am here to serve the people", he said.
