Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Pilibhit, Varun Feroze Gandhi, filed his nomination papers on Friday.
Varun Gandhi, the sitting BJP MP from Sultanpur, has been shifted to Pilibhit, the constituency represented by his mother Maneka Gandhi.
Talking to media persons in Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development witnessed in the country in the last five years.
“The pace of country’s development is extraordinary and it has helped all because the government worked on the ideology of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” he said.
Varun said that people had the right to reject him if he was involved in any corruption. “I have come here as a sepoy of the PM,” he said.
There were speculations that Varun could leave BJP and join Congress but his statement in favour of the PM, showed his inclination towards the ruling party though neither he nor his mother Maneka have been made the star campaigner of the party in this election.
Varun filed his papers in the office of district election officer Vaihbav Srivastava. He was accompanied by Puranpur MLA Baburam Paswan and former Nagar Palika chairman Prabhat.
Pilibhit goes to polls in the third phase on April 23.
After filing his nominations, Varun went to the temple of Mata Yashwantri Devi and took her blessings and later addressed a gathering there.
Later, Varun held a road show in the city and interacted with the voters
