While UP is reeling under acute power crisis leading to spontaneous agitation by the public, new Energy secretary and UP Power Corporation limited (UPPCl) chairman, Sanjay Agrwal on Friday instructed field staff to be consumer friendly and attend the faults promptly.
Stressing at revenue realisation, remaining in poor condition despite repeated efforts, he warned to remove engineers from post if realisation targets given to them were not achieved.
In first review meeting at Shakti Bhawan after taking over as Energy secretary, Agrawal, in view of the public anger visible on streets against prolonged outages, instructed senior officials to ensure giving information to consumers regarding roistering. In a case of local fault, the consumer should be informed as to how much time correction would take.
In the meeting attended by senior officials including power corporation managing director AP Mishra and managing directors of all discoms, Agrwal said, vailability of sufficient staff and necessary equipments must be ensured and field staff should attend all phone calls made by complainants during the night.
Emphasising at enhancing revenue realisation, the new Energy secretary said, all engineers indulging in revenue realisation will be warned only once in case of not meeting the targets. They will be removed from posts if revenue realisation is not improved in their areas.
On other hand the demand for power has started reaching around 13000 Mw during peak load hours while just 9000 to 10000 Mw energy was available. The situation leading to prolonged unscheduled outages was forcing people to take to streets all over state. According to sources at power corporation, rural areas were getting nominal supply and district headquarters 7 to 8 hour supply. The cities were getting average 10-12 hour supply which was brewing anger among denizens.
Challenging the claims of as per schedule supply by power corporation officials, a consumer body UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad (UPRVUP) said, the power corporation management must send its officials in districts to recheck the claims of scheduled supply.
