UP RERA begins virtual hearings

PNS

Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP RERA) on Monday resumed virtual regular hearing of the cases after 50 days of lockdown. The virtual hearing was held in two benches of UP RERA at Gautam Buddha Nagar and Lucknow and 40 cases were listed before the bench of the chairman and members.

UP RERA had communicated the date and time of hearing through video-conferencing well in advance through email and SMS to the parties whose cases are in argument stage, a press statement here said.

The virtual hearing team from UP RERA is also making phone calls to the parties for facilitating the process and to offer technical help to them, if needed.

To start with, the RERA is hearing 10 cases per day per bench considering the fact that the allocation of 15 minutes of video-conferencing session is needed for each case.

After the hearing, UP RERA Chairman Rajeev Kumar said, “This idea was welcomed by all. And people were able to participate from far-off places. That’s safe, quick, efficient and economical. Seems win-win for all and the way to go for all cases.”

It may be recalled that RERA has implemented e-court system with effect from March 2, 2020, thus moving towards the digital way of managing the complaints in a transparent and timely manner.

Detailed guidelines about the virtual hearing has been issued by RERA through its order dated May 18, 2020.

UP RERA has also decided to start listing of the cases before the adjudicating officer and conciliation forum through virtual medium of hearing. The dates will be soon fixed and the parties will be informed through email and SMS.

This way the UP RERA is ensuring normal functioning of the court and disposal of the complaints notwithstanding the dislocation caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

It is expected that the virtual hearing will prove to be a very strong instrument of imparting justice to the aggrieved parties in a transparent, efficient and time-bound manner, the statement said.
