Uttar Pradesh Police - the world’s largest law enforcing agency, serving nearly 200 million people in the country’s most populous state, launched Twitter’s live customer service solution -’Twitter Seva’, across the state on Tursday.
Twitter Seva will enable the UP Police, among other things, to strengthen its primary relationship with citizens by providing fast, efficient and real-time public service. This is one
of the most comprehensive roll outs of the Twitter Seva customer service solution in the country by a public service department and will enable large scale police response to citizens’ Tweets in real-time.
With the objective of improving overall civil safety and enhanced law and order, DGP Javeed Ahmad launched ‘Twitter Seva’ to provide real-time service delivery and citizen interaction. Through this collaboration, UP Police (@Uppolice) is aiming to drive efficient and effective service for millions of citizens through the platform for live, public chats.
With this adoption, more than 120 verified accounts of UP Police across districts and zones will be accessible to the public on Twitter.
Citizens can simply Tweet their query to UP Police handle (@Uppolice) and the request will activate offices of the police department across the state.
Commenting on this partnership, Head of News, Government and Politics Partnerships, Twitter India, Raheel Khursheed said, “We welcome the move of UP Police to consider Twitter as the key platform for modern policing. By deploying this citizen-first approach, the UP Police is utilising Twitter’s real time public features to strengthen relationship between the police
and people. The Twitter Seva solution is now being adopted by thousands of official government accounts and processing approximately 4,25,000 Tweets per month.”
Speaking at the launch, DGP Javeed Ahmed, said, “Twitter is a powerful medium for directly communicating with people. It has become necessary for the police to adopt it. We are delighted to make a concerted effort by adopting the Seva solution. This will support us in helping citizens in a planned and timely manner for effective functioning. Understanding its potential, I have made it mandatory for every district police and senior police official to have a Twitter account.”
Moving forward, all top officers of the rank of SP, SSsP, Deputy Inspectors General and Inspectors General will maintain a Twitter account. The UP Police would also be serviced with a permanent social media department.
Senior officers would also configure their Twitter accounts on their official phone numbers so that they can ensure necessary and swift action to public queries and complaints and will also reveal their rank and location as markers on Twitter. Twitter accounts would also be maintained at every district level and these accounts would be directly named after the district.
Officers and personnel are being imparted training on using Twitter for e-policing at the DGP’s headquarters in lucknow.
