UP Mahila Congress would soon launch a massive signature campaign to press for the implementation of `anti-liquor’ policy in the state. Mahila Congress workers said that they will try to get the said policy included in the party manifesto for the coming Assembly elections.
``We have discussed at length on how to go forward to get liquor sale banned in UP. Hence, we have decided to go in for a massive signature campaign drive across the state and garner support esepcially from the fairer sex before taking further steps”, said UP Mahila Congress chief Pratima Singh.
She said that all members of the state executive of UP Mahila Congress converged on the view that liquor should be strictly prohibited in the state.
“However, to get a policy in place nd more importantly getting it implemented, the signature campaign is the first step. Once that is done, the demand will be forwarded to senior party leaders for including it in manifesto. We will urge the public to vote for Congress in the coming Assembly polls so that an anti-liquor policy could be implemented,” said Singh.
Earlier several women’s outfits had taken up the cudgels against liquor sale in the state after several persons died after consuming spurious liquor across the state.
Recently in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar included the liquor prohivition policy in his election campaign and soon after coming to power, he banned the sale, storage and smuggling of liquor in the state giving respite to the women.
The Mahila Congress leader further said that she has appealed to her party colleagues to launching a campaign to educate the masses about the worsening situation of the state in the last 27 years when the Congress was out of power in UP.
She said that she would urge senior leaders to give handsome representation of woen candidates while distributing tickets for the coming Assembly polls.
It may be mentioned that the Congress’s poll strategist Prashant Kishor already claimed that the party would field tough women workers against musclemen, mafia and criminal elements trying their luck during the next Assembly polls in the state.
Meanwhile, hailing the High Court decision of handing over probe of Bulundshahr highway gangrape to the CBI, Pratima Singh said that the law and order in UP has deteriorated to such an extent that no one could feel safe even when sitting at home
