UP govt prepares to open Job Market

Biswajeet, PNS

The Akhilesh Yadav Government is all set to open job market in the next fiscal as it plans to appoint over 1.5 lakh people in education, health, police and food and civil supplies department. These appointments would be over and above 33,000 jobs promised this year.

“The blue print has been prepared to appoint people at different levels in different departments. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has given his consent to the project and final shape would be given to it within a fortnight,” a senior official told The Pioneer here on Wednesday.

The state government wishes to appoint teachers both in the primary and secondary sections. Doctors and para-medics for state-run hospitals and PHCs and campaigners (volunteers) on the ad hoc basis who will work in tandem with the social welfare and food and civil supplies department to ensure implementation of nutritional schemes launched by the state and central governments.

Besides the government plans to appoint over 40,000 cops at different levels starting from constables to Sub-Inspector level. Addition to it over 5,000 traffic constables would also be appointed

The UP Government has also written to the State Public Service Commission to initiate process to appoint doctors as the government hospitals as they need over 4000 doctors immediately. Some hospitals are facing acute shortage of neurologists and cardiologists and the same has been conveyed to the service commission.

Minister of state of Health Shankhlal Majhi said that para-medics, Non-Medical Assistants, X-Ray technicians and workers to run DoT clinics in the villages would be appointed soon.

Government had earlier appointed over 2300 doctors but majority of them refused to join because of mandatory rural posting. To counter this problem the government changed the rule and reserved PG seats for doctors in state-run medical colleges who have completed three year rural posting. “This proposal is lucrative enough for the MBBS doctors to join State Health Services,” he said.

The initial break-up shows around 1 lakh appointments in education sector. Over 70 per cent of this would be in the primary education and rest in the secondary and junior sections. “This 1 lakh vacancies also include promotion of Shiksha Mitras into regular grade. Around 70,000 new TET passed persons would be appointed as teachers in the primary sections,” the official said.

When contacted Education Minister Ram Gobind Chaudhry said that the primary schools are facing an acute shortage of teachers. The Government is trying to appoint teachers since 2013 but the appointments are caught in legal wrangles. “So the process has been started afresh. New advertisement would be issued to appoint teachers and whole process would be finalized within six months time,” he said.

Chaudhry also said that government plans to appoint around 1000 convent educated teachers for the model schools which government proposes to start from next academic session in each district. “These institutions would impart education in English to students,” he said.

The government official said budgetary allocation would be made for the new appointments in the 2015-16 budget. Around Rs 105 crore that was allocated for appointment of teachers and doctors would be used in the next fiscal, he said.
