Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Thursday struck down UP government’s request to withdraw a rape case against former Union minister of state for Home Swami Chinmayanand. The couyr further issued a Rs 5000 bailable warrant against him and asked him to appear in person in the court on July 12.
Chinmayanand had courted controversy after one of his woman disciples accused him of raping her and subsequently a case was registered. The state government had recently announced to withdraw the case.
The CJM court issued the order while hearing an application filed by the Prosecution department pursuing the government’s stand of withdrawing the case against Chinmayanand.
Earlier, Chinmayanand filed an application in High Court against a summon order issued b y the CJM’s court after which the High Court stayed the CJM court summon.
After the BJP came to power in UP, Chinmayanand withdrew the above application from High Court and using his links in the power corridors, he got an instruction issued to the Prosecution department to apply in court seeking withdrawal of the rape case against him.
