UP emerged for another experiment of tie-up between the socialist and so-called secular parties

Biswajeet, PNS

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the crucible for another experiment of tie-up between the socialist and so-called secular parties to emerge as a force to counter Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.

The trial which started during Samajwadi Party’s national convention when Janata Dal (U) chief Sharad Yadav shared dais was Mulayam Singh Yadav last week was replicated on Sunday in Meerut when leaders of different political parties like JD (U), JD (S) RlD and Samajwadi Party came on one platform on the name of Kisan Swabhiman.

“All the like-minded parties came for a cause and this was reflected in the attendance of not only leaders but also the crowd. leaders like Sharad Yadav, H.D. Dewe Gowda and Shivpal Singh Yadav threw their weight behind Chaudhry Ajit Singh’s fight against communal BJP,” RlD national general secretary Anil Dubey said here on Monday.

He said all the parties equivocally admitted that a memorial of Chaudhry Charan Singh should be constructed 12 Tughlaqabad Road in New Delhi because this is a fight for Kisan Swabhiman. The struggle for Kisan Swabhiman is in fact a veneer of uniting political parties for farmers’ cause, where as it is an attempt to see how so called socialist secular forces can unite. The combination has taken currency after by-polls where Janata Dal (U) and Samajwadi Party emerged victorious in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh respectively.

“The bye-election has proved that socialist parties are the first choice of the people. If these forces can unite in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh it would be end of the road for BJP,” Samawadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said. The BJP has however taken this development with a pinch of salt. Party president Dr lakshmi Kant Bajpai said that rally of RlD and other parties demanding a memorial for Chaudhry Charan Singh at 2, Tughlaqabad Road was a drama..

He said leaders like Sharad Yadav, Ajit Singh and Shivpal Singh Yadav know that there is a Supreme Court order stating that no bungalow in lutyens Delhi should be converted into a memorial. “When everyone knows about the SC order why these leaders are staging a drama. Why they are misleading the people,” he asks.

He said the leaders should have raised the issue like worsening law and order situation, power crisis and the long standing need of setting up a High Court bench in western UP instead raising such non-existant issue. “There is much more than meets the eye in this rally. The leaders gathered in Meerut not for Kisn Swabhiman but to fathom who tangible their own alliance could be,” Bajpai said.
