With the UP Police brass engrossed in cosmetic changes than basic policing to harness crime, the attack on members of fairer sex continued unabated across the state.
In the last 24 hours, two girls were raped and murdered in Etah and Hathras respectively, two six-year-old girls were raped and killed in Kannauj and Philibhit respectivelly and lastly, a teenaged girl was shot in Shahjahenpur leading to communal tension.
Surprisingly, the UP Police brass ignored Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives of intensifying foot patrolling. Instead, officers were more responsive to complaints on Twitter and other social media sites leaving girls from poor and downtrodden strata to providencial help.
In Etah, a nine-year-old girl was raped and murdered while she was attending on Thursday night. Three days back, a minor was similarly raped and killed when she went to attend a function in the district.
The girl had gone to attend the wedding of her uncle in Keltha locality of Aliganj police station when a driver Pintu dragged her to a isolated spot and raped the girl before killiong her. A case was registered against the accused who was arrested.
In Kannauj, a six-year-old girl accompanied her parents to a `Tilak’ ceremony in Ranveerpur hamlet of Chibramau on Thursday night. later the girl disappeared after which her family launched a hunt. In the process, they heard the shrieks of the girl and as they rushed to a narrow lane, they saw a local identified as Pintu fleeing the spot. They found the girl in injured state and rushed her to hospital where she succumbed. A case was registered and Pintu, who was engaged for preparing sweets in the function, was nabbed.
In a similar incident in Pilibhit, a six-year-old girl of Kalinagar area disappeared from her house a week back after which her family lodged a case of kidnapping. On Thursday evening, her mutilated body was found lying in the fields. The body had several injuries and was beyond recognition. Circumstantial evidences suggested that the girl was killed after raped or someone sacrifice her to appease some deity. SP Philibhit, Kalanidhi said that they would conduct a DNA test to confirm her identity. A case was registered and efforts were on to identify the killers.
In Shahjahenpur, a girl was shot dead by a jilted lover on Friday morning. The girl was going with her sister when Arshad intercepted and shot her from point blank range as the victim opposed the accused’ lewd overtures. Senior officers rushed to the spot and deployed police force to avert any communal clash.
lastly at Hathras, a 14-year-old girl was gang-raped of Sikandra Rao area. The victim had gone to a field near her house when the miscreants overpowered and raped her in the wee hours of Thursday. Two persons were named in the FIR filed by the victim’s father and the girl was sent for medical examination.
