Trading community worst hit by demonetisation: Raj Babbar

Calling demonetisation as a death knell for small traders Congress state president Raj Babar said that the trading community that made BJP strong stands cheated at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who for personal glory has made these people suffer.

“The trading community is worst affected by Central Government’s decision to demonetise high value currency notes. They are being treated by central government as `chor’ and many restrictions have been imposed on them. This is more unfortunate as it is being done by a government led by a party which is being called as Bania ki party,” Babar said while addressing Traders’ Cell in the party here on Sunday.

He said that it is fact that many small time traders are forced to close those shops because of cash crunch. The IT officials are hounding jewelers after Government culled high value notes. Same is true with leather dealers. They are forced to close their shop, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president said.

“This is done to benefit a few big industrial houses. In the last two and a half years rule of BJP-led NDA government all 90 traders are chor while just 10 per sent of the big industrial houses are `shariff’,” he said.

Babbar asked traders to ask for their pound of flesh in the coming assembly election. Teach BJP a lesson in the UP election. Traders are the spine of any community. If any government will try to break that it will dismantle within no time,” he said.

Earlier in the day the screening committee of the Congress held a meeting to shortlist candidates for the fourth and fifth phases of election. Congress president Raj Babar, former president Nirmal Khatri, Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari and Sanjay Singh attended this meeting.
