The much-hyped NDA Government’s scheme to clean Ganga finds its echo in Samajwadi Party’s national convention when Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav claimed that cleaning rivers was part of communal agenda of the BJP Government and the scheme was launched to gain political mileage.
“Just cleaning Ganga would not clean all the rivers of the country. But BJP is trying to take political mileage by raking up the issue of cleaning Ganga because people consider Ganga as sacred river,” he said during his speech in the concluding day of the three-day Samajwadi Party national convention.
He said: “Rivers are secular in true sense because it passes through all the regions and serve Muslims and Hindus alike. But it is unfortunate that BJP it trying to rake up the issue through its communal mindset.”
Yadav said that Centre’s priority is lop-sided. When people are craving for electricity the government is talking about rivers. “The Uttar Pradesh Government has time and again asked for additional electricity but Centre has rejected that proposal. Even after several reminders, the centre is yet to give UP its share of power while the shortage of coal at the thermal power stations still persists,” he said.
Yadav said his government was trying its best to provide uninterrupted power in the state but non-cooperative attitude of the centre has created a big hurdle.
He, however, announced that by 2016, the villages will receive 16 hours power while the urban areas would get around 22 hrs power.
Yadav said that UP is the only state in the country to construct a 300 kilometers Green field lucknow- Agra expressway with its own resources.” There is no dispute in acquisition of land for the project as farmers are given adequate compensation and farmers are happily handing over land to government for development,” he said.
Decrying Centre’s move to de-control prices of life saving drugs Chief Minister said when SP government was giving free medical treatment to the poor, the BJP government, in nexus with medicine companies, in raising the prices of the drugs.
Claiming that his government had prioritized development of roads, power and drinking water facilities in its next two-and-a-half years of the regime, he said his government will set up markets for grains, vegetables and other important commodities so that farmers and traders get facilities at their door steps.
lauding the leaders and the party workers for their efforts to ensure victory of party candidates in the assembly by-elections Yadav said booth level committees worked like a well oiled machine and this made the difference.
“We should now expand these booth committees in other states so that SP could get a desired result,” he said.He also elaborated in detail about achievements of his government and claimed that no other state had done such work for the people in such a short span of time. The CM called on the youths to be prepared for the 2017 assembly elections from now onward and serve the people in solving their problems.
